Election (1999)

angol Alexander Payne shows us here that he has a good sense for scripts and that he can write a good script, even if you feel at first that this is just going to be high school crap. First of all, Election is not a shallow comedy but is instead a very good drama in places. This alternation of atmospheres is very good and can make you feel uncomfortable. Matthew Broderick is in his element in these slightly sleazy roles.

Dorian Gray (2009)

angol I thought this film would be pompous, that it would try to be too modern, but it turned out to be the adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray I imagined. It has power, the darkness of lust and the human soul, and it's all presented by well-chosen actors. It’s a great story about how far it is possible to go and still never reach fulfilment.

Don Quixote: The Ingenious Gentleman of La Mancha (2015)

angol This is not a groundbreaking adaptation of this classic work of Spanish literature, which has far-reaching implications beyond the borders of its native country. Yet it is not a bad adaptation either, and the basic ideas are there. I was a bit bothered by the use of digital special effects here and there, but they didn't really hurt the film, but I think it could have been made more interesting without them.

Doc Hollywood (1991)

angol Michael J. Fox is such a crowd-pleasing actor that you'll enjoy him even when he's playing an asshole, at least at first. Thanks to him, the film is an enjoyable, if not breathtaking, comedy, and it's also a romance that has clearly defined rules, but the individual characters and the clash between the countryside and the big city make it a good film.

Dirty Dancing (2017) (Tévéfilm)

angol The acting might be great and musical singing can be added, but this is still a remake of something that shouldn't have been remade. Even though it's a romantic film, I think it's gained enough of a cult status that even its more modern version, with its unnecessary storyline moved up 12 years, just shows that some things don't need to be modernized - they're as good as they are in their original form.

A szerelem sivataga (1985)

angol This is a relatively bold film for its time, at least in the subject matter it wants to portray, but not so much in how it portrays it. It is a lesbian romance, which unfortunately is relatively classic in its conception, yet the actors, who are not that well-known, are able to capture your attention and you believe in their story.

Harlequin (1980)

angol For the first time in a long time, Harlequin introduced me to a truly captivating villain who is also so charming that at times you don't even know if he's really the villain. The special effects scenes are a bit lacking in places, but it turns out that they simply work in this film. I really enjoyed the plot of Harlequin and Robert Powell showed us his mastery to the fullest.

A táncos (2016)

angol This is a documentary that is not afraid to show the personality of a brilliant dancer in all his forms, including the moments when he falls to the ground, with it often being his own fault. Sergei wasn't afraid to let the camera film him and really showed himself to us with all the nuances. Watching him dance is something I can’t help but like, even though I don't like ballet.

Szörnyek keringője (2001)

angol This film has a very slow pace and is actually a romantic story between a couple you wouldn't expect to have a romance. Everything else is set pieces, accurate and not a perfect fit for the romantic concept. Yet more important are the performances. Even though Halle Berry won an Oscar for her role, Billy Bob is no less great.

Szellemek városa (2017)

angol I couldn’t help but realize one fundamental thing as I watched this film - I didn't care about the subject matter. What is happening in countries where ISIS is, was or will be is an atrocity, but we already know that... These are cruel fates, but it just couldn't bring out anything in me. Maybe I'm numb to it or there's too much bad stuff from this region to begin with.
