Az istenek ajándéka (2014)

angol An undemanding drama with elements of tragicomedy that will get you with its humanity. An actress who has been forgotten meets other people with the same problem. Society has no interest in them and that leaves them feeling betrayed. Powerful stories about people in the setting of amateur dramatics. I liked the movie and what I particularly liked about it was that finding a job wasn’t the important thing here, but instead finding some inner enthusiasm and drive and learning to get on with others. I watched this as part of "Das Filmfest" and I give it a well-deserved 4*.

Who Am I - Egy rendszer sincs biztonságban (2014)

angol Crazily good! I really wasn’t expecting to get such a portion of action drama, plus occasional funny moments and a wonderfully complex story. I didn’t get bored for a minute and I really enjoyed this movie. I saw Who Am I - No System Is Safe during the "Das Filmfest" annual festival of German movies, where I was expecting to see those dreary and depressing stories that I like. But the story about the hacker really got to me. The actors, the music, the special effects and the overall pace and oomph were all top rate.

Ifjak és erősek (2014)

angol A very powerful story based on real events. I saw this picture during "Das Filmfest 10" and it left a lasting effect on me. I like movies that make you think. The theme can easily be compared with the migration waves we are experiencing today. An endless line of questions occur to you during and after the movie, not all of which can be reliably answered. The movie is very well filmed and the black and white tones add an extra dimension, as do the acting performances. The picture has a bit of a depressing air about it, just how I like it. The filmmakers did an excellent job of capturing the situation, so I’m content.

Amerika (2015)

angol It’s hard to say if this is a documentary or a real movie, but I don’t intend to criticize the makers for failing to stick either to documentary or movie format. This has no plot, but they do have you constantly thinking about the Czech tramping lifestyle and about what makes America so wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional one-liner and some scenes that had the whole movie theater laughing. And it was an excellent touch to be able leave the movie theater accompanied by live music played by one of the protagonists, Honza. I probably wouldn’t watch this again, but first time round I was very pleased with this and so I give it a deserved 4*.

Ohnivé ženy mezi námi (1987) (Tévéfilm)

angol The conclusion of the trilogy about two medieval witches may be the weakest in terms of the plot and it may not be as humorous, but I would compare it to the second installment. The first part was simply the best, as it usually is, but I still like the remaining two parts and they never get boring for me. The film exudes a very satisfying and nostalgic atmosphere, which is hard to find in today's comedies. As I mentioned, it may be weaker in terms of the plot, but they probably ran out of ideas, and it makes for a pleasant afternoon. I would also like to highlight the magical music that accompanies all three parts. I give it 4 stars because this film is and will always be among us, and it never fails to entertain me.

Ohnivé ženy se vracejí (1986) (Tévéfilm)

angol A loose continuation of the fun comedy Ohnivé ženy (Fire Women). I liked this part a little less than the previous one, but it still manages to entertain. I didn't really like Dagmar Veškrnová in the role of a man, but she still came across as funny and it works. I liked the change of scenery compared to the first part, but the plot is somewhat weaker. Nevertheless, I give it 4 stars because the film is one of my favorite classics from my childhood.

Ohnivé ženy (1984) (Tévéfilm)

angol I really like the witches Marta and Magdalena. I first saw the movie as a child and immediately liked it. It was something new with a funny theme and a nice plot. To this day, I like to watch this comedy almost every summer, thanks to great performances by the actors and partly amusing, but successful graphic effects (for that time). These two women still entertain me and I think that will last for a long time.

Familie Sonntag auf Abwegen (2013) (Tévéfilm)

angol A pleasant afternoon comedy. Because nobody had reviewed this yet, I wasn’t expecting anything particularly great from this movie. But I had a good time watching it and the occasional rather ridiculous scenes didn’t bother me. I give this a high 3*.

Rendíthetetlen (2014)

angol I had no particular expectations from this movie. But I must just say that however high I might have set the limits of expectation, Unbroken would surely have broken them. This movie was so superb to watch that it ripped me to bits inside. You can see the excellent results of all the hard work that went into this. Acting performances of great bravado, the scenery and the production blended together with each other perfectly. The storyline got me by the heart strings and I will be processing the emotions that the movie left inside me for a long time hence. The wonderful steady rise in tension throughout the movie is reflected in the score I give this, which is a full set of 5*.

Hétköznapi pár (2011)

angol The topic was good; when I read the blurb about it I was looking forward to watching. Unfortunately, I found the treatment very disappointing; I didn’t like it. The first half of the movie came over all comical and confused. The other half began to take off and was significantly better, but no good enough to make up for the beginning. I’m quite surprised at the high rating (76%); I found this movie absolutely mediocre.
