Kim hat einen Penis (2018)

angol This movie is hard to take at all seriously. Mainly, it’s no drama, more like an enthusiastic comedy with a hint of bitterness at the very end. Unfortunately the cast is hard to watch, the story itself is entertaining until about half way through, but then it’s just a bit embarrassing and starts to repeat itself. So in my opinion, this didn’t work so well, but I managed to sit through it.

Dene wos guet geit (2017)

angol I might have missed some hidden references to movies that unfortunately I don’t know, but I had expected much from this and got almost nothing. The movie is full of numbers, modern technological trends (smartphones, everything via internet etc.), but nothing else. The filmmakers highlight one of the most painful issues of the present day - exploitation of lonely senior citizens; and that’s why it gets at least those two stars from me. But this movie didn’t give me anything else. What was written about this sounded great, but there was no story, just monotonous footage lacking any tension. The movie lacks any central character that could serve as a point of departure. This left me feeling that all I had been watching was just a stream of uninspiring supporting roles.

Es war einmal Indianerland (2017)

angol Oh, yeah, that was a real rollercoaster ride! Extremely catchy and action-packed camerawork; I rate the trendiness of this movie highly. Everybody in the movie theater enjoyed this from start to finish. It doesn’t deserve a full set of stars, but this movie about a young boxer, love and complicated relationships with his father and friends is well worth watching, especially on the big screen.

Sommerhäuser (2017)

angol A purely minimalist and quietly filmed movie with an emphasis not on dialog, but more on the mysterious and sometimes shocking atmosphere in a big family’s big back yard. The movie draws on the melancholic feeling it gets from being set in the 1970s. If set in the present, this wouldn’t have been enough, or it would have come across lacking somehow. So, nothing really of interest for demanding viewers, but there is some quality here that will certainly find a receptive audience.

A kőszív (2016)

angol Rather a starkly presented fairytale romance concealing a pretty original story. The only downside here was the excessive running time and sometimes needlessly dragged out contemplations of the main protagonists, but otherwise it worked well. It isn’t until the end that you are given some food for thought, making you realize that this wasn’t a fairytale after all.

Stille Reserven (2016)

angol A very intriguing topic, a cast that works and, last but not least, the nicely "bleak" manner that this was filmed in. The only thing that brought the movie down a little was the excessive monotony that reigned throughout. Going home from this movie festival, I carried with me the feeling that the entire movie could have fitted into just half an hour. Nevertheless, despite this negative aspect, the movie spoke to me and I must say it is well worth watching.

B-Movie: Nyugat-Berlin hangjai, 1979-1989 (2015)

angol Now, that was really something... A completely unique and excellently made documentary about the evolution of music in West Berlin with doses of craziness. This movie had me completely engrossed from start to finish and, as someone who comes from a generation that didn’t live through this era, I am extremely glad that I had the chance to enjoy authentic footage and, in my opinion, excellent dosages of quality music.

A boszorkány (2015)

angol So once again a decent trailer but nothing more. For the first time in my life I found myself praying for a movie to end. Here we aren’t talking about no horror movie or thriller (as a proof of that was laughter from me and other in the movie theater, in what were supposed to be suspenseful and scary scenes…), it’s about a spiritual psycho, who is a constant bore, except for few tense moments. The screenplay was unbelievably irritating, the only plus I see is in the acting performances, production design and music, but that’s the end of the positives. A truly bad, bad movie…

A dán lány (2015)

angol So this was a real good dose of emotions excellently fitted into two hours. I literally immersed myself in The Danish Girl and savored every minute of it. Extraordinary acting performances, a great screenplay, but also great settings. It’s been a long time since I saw a movie that would talk to me through such heartfelt emotions, despair, passion and joy. I can’t give this anything less than a full set of stars. If you appreciate a good emotional drama, The Danish Girl is just the right thing for you.

Andělé všedního dne (2014)

angol The first half an hour was just torture. Boring, monotonous and lacking any attempt to suck the viewer in. But if you endure this boring part you will be quite well rewarded. The plot gains momentum and the sequence of events fly by beautifully till the very end. With funny situations here and there on top of that. I didn’t fall for the clutch of angels at first, but I gradually got used to them and in the end they turn out to be quite nice characters.
