Egy modern apa naplója (2021)

angol A spanking and witty piece! The story starts with a pretty absurd agreement, seemingly lacking any connection with reality, but soon everything begins falling together and works surprisingly well. The two central characters played by T. Ramba and J. Mádl give high standard performances and the chemistry between them works exceptionally well. The plot has momentum and even thought it builds on relatively simple foundations, it works well till the very end. We even get a couple of emotional moments, which very pleasantly raise the quality of the whole movie. The only reason why I don’t award the Diary full marks is the almost slapstick close with "two different ending" both of which are simply too farfetched. In any case, a very successful comedy.

Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020)

angol Very impressive and chilling coverage of relatively recent events. J. Duričić’s performance sends shivers down your spine. The way that cruelty and hopelessness is depicted is completely realistic and convincing. The tension in the movie rises perfectly, stirring your emotions. It’s a rough story, but we really should know even the dark moments of our history.

Két hajó (2021)

angol This movie comes up against the classic grey drabness of Czech cinema. The characters are blank, the story bland, the plot half-hearted and the ending very rushed. E. Křenková carries the whole movie on her shoulders alone; she suits the role perfectly. On the other hand the performance of M. Kyšperský, whose emotions I found utterly unconvincing, drags the movie down. The music and the choice of an important and sensitive topic are the two pluses of this movie.

Éjszaka a házban (2020)

angol This is an excellent psychological thriller; it forces you to keep your brain cells working throughout the movie. And the more contemplative viewers will be left ruminating long after the movie finishes. The atmosphere, music and R. Hall herself are all perfect. The denouement might not suit everybody, but I am happy. There were too few scary moments, but those that saw worked very well. The movie concentrates more on the psychological side of things and plays with the viewer’s imagination, which is a good thing and certainly positive for the movie.

A Fehér Lótusz (2021) (sorozat)

angol A tv series that definitely catches your interest. We watch a plethora of insufferable guests, the worst characters imaginable, who compete to be the most hateful and the most deserving of a beating. But strangely, this group grabs you and doesn’t let you go. The story forces you to follow its plot, and I'm glad to say that the characters themselves don't remain at the point of stagnation. Outstanding acting performances especially by M. Bartlett and J. Coolidge, absolutely brilliant and atmospheric music that perfectly accompanies almost every scene, and I must praise the editing too. And that makes it a very successful miniseries.

Gubó (2020)

angol I have to admit that the story and screenplay are too easily readable for this day and age and do not bring anything new. But what won me over was the cinematography and the music. The format of visuals and 80s style music mix chosen that is rather unusual these days has great charm and the acting performances are also a big plus. As a result, you get sometimes funny and sometimes dramatic high quality viewing.

Mádám Anny (2020)

angol The story of Anna, bathroom attendant and prostitute, may seem very ordinary and bland. However, for me it captures the main protagonist in the flow of time very well and depicts her often emotional, sincere, and infinitely authentic responses to obstacles in her life and historical milestones (change of regime, the Czech nineties, the Millennium). The overall impression is bitterly emotional, but the documentary is successful and the heroine interesting.

Szörnyella (2021)

angol I really had no idea how masterfully Cruella's story could be drawn and portrayed. I left the movie theater excited, full of enthusiasm and energy. I was moved by the beautiful ending of the movie and once again convinced that Emma Stone really does demonstrate Oscar-worthy qualities. The whole movie is complemented by brilliantly flamboyant and attractive costumes and makeup and a perfect soundtrack.

Belégzés, kilégzés (2019)

angol Raw story and raw Georgia. Again, I was fascinated by what this country can be like. A powerful story that is portrayed very minimalistic way and takes a while for the viewer to get into the action. Overall, the creators are working with the rough and ready atmosphere of the environment, too little room for a script and, above all, the excellently portrayed main characters.

Daniel világa (2014)

angol Pedophilia is an important topic to talk about and it is quite taboo in society. Everyone just thinks that all pedophiles are the same and the first thing they do is jump on when he sees your child is to jump on him… This humanizing documentary is somewhat eye-opening, and after watching it, you will not look at the issue with scorn (that is, if you have a bit of empathy in you). Unfortunately, what kills the documentary is the static camerawork, monotonous dialogs, and the mannerisms and monologs from the main protagonist. I like that Daniel's friends accept him and try to find understanding, but some scenes are rather detrimental to the whole topic (for example the devil and St. Nicholas or the children’s playground scene).
