The Boogey Man

Ulli Lommel egy különc, szeret rejtélyes lenni és őrült ötletei vannak. És ez egy aranyat érő kombináció a horror műfajában. A The Boogey Man egy titokzatos, lassú, erősen atmoszférikus horrorfilm, amely Carpenter Halloween című filmjének témáját veszi kölcsön, és azt Dario Argento pszichedelikus formájába csomagolja. A rendező mintha a sorok között olvasna, gyakran megmutatja nekünk azt, amit máshol nem láthatunk, és elhagyja a klisés fordulatokat, melyek igazán lassítanák a mesélést. Egy bizarr film, amely nem fog sem megijeszteni, sem félelmet ébreszteni, hanem vagy tátott szájjal delíriumban fogod bámulni, vagy halálra fogsz unatkozni. A produkciót tekintve olcsó, de a rendezés, a forgatókönyvírás, a látvány és a zene szempontjából rendkívül figyelemre méltó. Ezekkel a paraméterekkel a Fantazma című filmhez hasonlít, Don Coscarelli rendezőtől. A 4* egy kicsit guilty pleasure. (2003.10.28)

This is a very curious example of a particular type of horror movie, in which the maker’s inventive vision is thrashed and beaten by bad directing and screenwriting incompetence. With The Boogeyman, Ulli Lommel combines a lot of interesting ideas and visual treats (especially in the ostentatious finále, with the really iconic playing around with the reflections in the fragments of the mirror). However, despite that, he puts it all together in such a questionable and haphazard way, that it all seemed so fragmented and incoherent. I would probably end up rating this as a terrible movie based on an excellent vision, which at times breaks its own established rules, however, there are still some quite jaw-dropping moments for the audience. In any case, Tim Krog's distinctive electronic music puts the movie on a higher level than it probably deserves! (2019.09.05)
