Labelled as one of the greatest zombie films in years, The Battery follows two former baseball players as they navigate their way across a zombie ravaged New England. Despite being teammates for years, the pair clash as Ben embraces his new lawless existence, while Mickey craves the creature comforts of his old life. Szimpatikusan sikeres túlélő dráma, átszámítva 140 ezer CZK (!) költségvetéssel. Elegendő a hihető színészi játék, a szereplők természetét feltáró párbeszédek és látszólag hétköznapi helyszínek, ahol azonban fennáll a zombikkal való találkozás veszélye. Alapvetően az egész “csak" a két srác barátságáról szól. Tetszik, hogy Gardner szándékosan nem mutat be olyan eseményeket, amelyek egy másik filmben izgalmas látványosság lenne. Ezért bezárva tartja őket. De mégis, a későbbi After Midnight filmben sokkal kifinomultabb szintre emelte a koncepciót, ráadásul szuper csattanóval. Ez csak egy játékos és pihentető mozi.

Between three and four stars, but for an indie directorial début I’m going higher. During the first two acts, The Battery is probably the most easy-going zombie film I’ve ever seen (the zombies don’t pose much of a threat, they are like props in a nice indie summer comedy), but in the last act the film switches into a more intimate but also darker and effective mode. It’s a very well made indie flick, with perfect performances and atmosphere, and a great soundtrack. We will sure hear more from Jeremy Gardner.
