Lucio Fulci ezúttal elköveti azt a hibát, hogy a filmet nem sötét horrorként, hanem véres krimiként fogja fel. Képzeljünk el egy szokványos, Manhattanben játszódó régebbi krimi sorozatot, egy unalmas középkorú színész főszereplésével, engedjük ki egy szofisztikált bűnügyi sztorit, és az eredményt fűszerezzük meg gyomorforgató gyilkosságokkal. Semmi feszültség vagy hangulat, csak egy átlagos tévéfilm olcsó vizuális koncepciója. És miért ad ki a gyilkos olyan hangokat, mint Donald kacsa?? A The New York Ripper film már az első gyilkossággal is megmarad az ember emlékezetében, a női mell és mellbimbó borotvapengével történő precíz átvágásának részleteivel. I didn't believe it even when I read it before watching it, but it's true, the killer does sound like Donald Duck when he kills. Why didn’t I find that out while watching the film? It doesn’t matter, it's hilarious, and along with the "razor blade" scene, it's the only noticeable thing about the entire film. Otherwise, dull boredom, uninteresting actors, a weak script and five murders that are relatively moderate in terms of gore for Fulci. And just a small detail for the record: the famous razor blade scene mentioned by Pomo is not during the first murder, but during the fifth one at the end of the film. "The New York Ripper" is one of the better movies by Lucio Fulci, mainly because it is evident that even in the so-called trash, as his work is mostly referred to, he can still create an interesting plot that keeps you in suspense until the end. It is precisely elements such as quacking, sexuality that has nothing to do with intimacy but is open, and also violence that make his films so interesting. If you are not afraid of blood, Fulci is definitely an author who should not be overlooked. (2014.01.24)
