Smooth adaptation of Kluun’s eponymous controversial bestseller about a slick, promiscuous advertising guy who keeps sleeping around after his wife is diagnosed with breast cancer. Adaptation of Kluun's bestseller is the directing debut of Reinout OerlemansKomt een vrouw bij de dokter tells the controversial story of a flashy advertising guy who does not believe in monogamy and keeps sleeping around even after his wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. After Stijn marries Carmen, 'the hottest chick in Amsterdam' and becomes a father, he retains several girlfriends. Carmen accepts his behaviour, but when a lump in her left breast turns out to be malignant, their relationship is put under pressure by Stijn's 'polyamory'. Of all times, Stijn now begins a passionate relationship with artist Roos, who becomes an outlet and a surrogate wife for him. This adultery almost ends in divorce. Shortly after Stijn does choose for Carmen, the cancer has spread. The contrast between hominess and big-city life, the ignorance of his surroundings and unexpected hallucinations illustrate the conflict that tears Stijn up. (Nederlands Film Festival)

angol The Dutch bestseller by Raymond van de Klundert already has three parts today. The beginning of the saga has been filmed, the strongest story about dying. Kluun works with autobiographical elements, dealing with the departure of his wife in an artistic way, similar to the author of the comic book "Raven." The slight difference between these stories is the realism of Stricken. Cancer and euthanasia are strong themes. Unfortunately, in its film form, it is only the tip of the iceberg of a small national cinema, but it is greatly helped by the participation of Carice van Houten, a star with international reach. I would say that the ending would be handled completely differently in many other national cinemas. ()
