angol A good initial idea. And they didn’t leave it just like that and in fact it is wrapped in a good screenplay (only in terms of this genre, of course). In places it’s really sickly sweet, but once a year at Christmas it’s bearable. But one small change would make it easily bearable. Just to leave the viewer to feel moved “naturally" and not to push it so hard. This way the tsunami of scenes is more often attempting to be touching than actually being so. And the filmmakers prove to us elsewhere that they know how to move the audience using natural more gentle channels instead. For instance the first time Holly and Gerry met in Ireland is absolutely perfect. On the other hand, the creators are skilled at both moving and entertaining the audience. Too bad that the movie is helped along mainly by the supporting characters. Which, considering that in the last third of the movie the decks are cleared of those supporting characters to make room for the main plot, is exceedingly disappointing. Especially since they never make a reappearance. The main role ideally needs a cute face with an enchanting smile. In other words, the exact opposite of Hillary Swank. Although she is an interesting and refreshingly uncommon-place, despite her acting qualities, she is a bit of a blot on the landscape for most of the movie. It might seem that there are just too many downsides. But the movie is just so nice that it’s impossible to write it off. Once in a while, even over-sweet lemonade can taste good. P.S. I Love You is a romantic movie made in a slightly different style than we are used to from Hollywood, where you can feel the influence of South Korean bittersweet melodramas. Without even having to do a remake. ()

angol From the first second to the last hundredth of a second I had goosebumps. Gerard Butler, who I have unfortunately not had the pleasure of encountering before, is one of the best actors of recent years. Thanks to this movie I also started endlessly adoring Hilary Swank. Her performance as Holly was incredibly sensual. She played the age difference in the parts perfectly. I cried really loudly during the scene where she's lying in bed playing the answering machine with Gerry's voice. P.S. I Love You never ceases to charm me and always makes me cry and laugh. Plus, the beautiful soundtrack makes the movie even more emotional. ()

angol One of the most original romantic films of recent years, and surprisingly, it is not as sugary as expected. The creators hold the story firmly in their hands and never allow unnecessary sentiment. Hilary Swank is crazy, honest, touching, playful, genuine, believable, captivating, magnificent One of the best actresses of contemporary Hollywood excels in an incredible way, overshadowing her somewhat unremarkable friends, her mother, and even her deceased husband. A clever and quite suspenseful film that not only makes you cry, but also laugh and sometimes even think. ()

angol This movie was pure emotional manipulation, but I didn't mind at all. Strong emotions hit the viewer from the second scene and there are plenty of them. It surprised me even more when Hilary Swank played the ending, as if she didn't really care. However, the great characters make up for it, and for me personally, Gerard Butler is a bonus. Maybe a bit showy, but this Scot can act, and he's good in comedies. He once again proved his comedic talent here. I know, it's not just a comedy, and sometimes you won't laugh at all, but it's also not a drama the whole time. The story has its lighter moments and sometimes turns into a German romantic film, but as a whole, it works quite well. It's just a pity that some characters are not developed enough and are completely neglected in the second half.
