With hopes of mending their troubled marriage, Peter (John Hargreaves) and Marcia (Briony Behets) set out on a camping excursion along the coast. Ausztrál Gyilkos túra, amelyben a kihívó nem a gonosz falusiak, hanem a vad trópusi állatvilág. Két főszereplő házassági válságban és egy olyan helyzetben van, amely nem igazán illik hozzájuk. Az állatok is segítenek ebben, de a fő ellenségük saját maguk, a labilis lelki világuk. Hangulatos thriller, meglepően hatásos ahhoz képest, hogy milyen kevés történik benne, és milyen térben. Az állatok rikoltozása, a tábori kényelmetlenség, a sötét éjszaka nyomasztó varázsa. A valóság idővel téveszmévé válik, a tetteket józan ítélőképesség nélkül követik el.

To sympathise with the main characters of this flick is impossible. The sooner you get that fact, the better you will make sense of the developments in the second part and accept the very naturalistic ending. And even if all the dread from this horror tends to just be hinted, it’s enough to give you the chills. At the end, this movie might give you some sense of satisfaction, but it certainly won’t replenish your optimism.

Long Weekend is a film that, in Australia at least, caught the attention of so many that the film was remade in 2008. There's not much to redo, because the film is already perfect in its original form in its strange, oppressive weirdness. Environmental horror isn't for everyone, but it works very well in this version and has a great bizarre atmosphere that's worth the interest.
