Tartalmak(1)

While the game is brimming with a sweetly dark atmosphere and a dense presence of monsters of all kinds, the film adaptation is an incredibly dull affair, devoid of atmosphere and even the monsters were surprisingly bland. Here, not even The Rock's charisma could improve the resulting poor impression. Carmack, when you meet Bartkowiak, smack him for me too. ()

angol An action B-movie with Mansell’s great music and an excellent ending. Nothing more, nothing less. The beginning is too slow-moving to be much fun, although some brighter places crop up, in the shape of mysterious vestiges of the previous “inhabitants" of Mars, but they really are few and far between. The nearer it gets to the end, the better Doom gets. In the last half hour, Bartkowiak serves up some superb action with a flawless “old-school" fight at the end. The “first person" view really works well, with the part with the Pinky Monster leading hands down. And acting duo Karl Urban and The Rock squeeze whatever they can from their characters, so Doom really deserves a chance to prove itself. ()

angol The approximately five-minute game-like sequence is something truly novel, and undoubtedly a great experience for fans of this classic game. However, for the rest of the movie, not much really happens. The beginning is solid, with a good atmosphere, but as time goes on, the film reaches a stage where it steals from all of its more famous and better counterparts (Predator, Aliens, Resident Evil, etc.). Atmospherically, it's quite good (dark modern laboratories – a safe bet), and the actors are somewhat decent. Karl Urban is truly excellent, but The Rock is surprisingly not that good. The action is solid, although at times it's a bit confusing and unclear. What stands out the most, however, is the excellent sound design, because no matter what anyone says, Doom is made solely and exclusively as a proper sound spectacle, then it truly becomes a blast...a mindless blast... angol Well, that was once again horrible. I like games, I even recently played the first and the second part again, but if it wasn't for the logo, Mars, UAC corporation and BFG weapon, I wouldn't even know that this creation has something in common with them. I don't even care about the story, it's reasonably video game-like and I didn't expect anything deeper. I'm talking about the wasted potential, the lack of use of so many different game monsters and demons, the zero atmosphere (Afraid? No chance!) and poor technical processing on the level of a mediocre TV or video film. In short, everything was bad. Even the much-vaunted first-person view was absolutely boring to the point of ridiculousness. I only liked Rosamund Pike, but that's definitely not a credit to the filmmakers. ()

angol I can't think of a more useless 4/5 of a movie than the ones in Doom. It's the most generic action/horror hunting D-film with a couple of likeable guys, a couple of goons/slimeballs ripe for elimination, cliches along the lines of I go everywhere alone etc. The more than boyishly oversized satisfaction (especially for Doom players) comes in the finale by throwing in first-person POV, admittedly a bit warped (and nowadays worse looking), but sparing no carnage even with weapons so legendary in Doom mythology as the motorcycle. The charming mercenaries played by The Rock and Urban also add points to the film. While it doesn't make up for the hour of endless tedium, I'll gladly throw in an extra star for the ending. ()

angol Even after the second viewing, it's not it, and I simply don't enjoy the movie. Besides being incredibly dragged out and actually having nothing to tell, it's dull in terms of action and completely devoid of ideas for a horror film. Yes, the creatures are nice, the digital effects are average, and the POV is absolutely dreadful. Today it might look a bit better, but there's no reason to film this again. It's still not a game. ()
