Ilyen az élet (2010)

angol Neither here nor there. It says comedy/drama/romance in the description, but only the last one applies. I expect a comedy to make me laugh, and I expect a drama to make me think. Neither of that happened. The film drags (110 minutes? Why?!). It's clear from the first scene that the two protagonists are going to end up together. Katherine Heigl plays the same desperate woman as always (I'm starting to wonder if she's really acting). The rest of the film is just filler, trying in vain to create suspense by throwing various predictable obstacles in their way. I would have given it just one star, but Christina Hendricks was in the film for ten minutes, which was a brilliant move.

Rick és Morty (2013) (sorozat)

angol A slightly unoriginal but hilarious animated series. If it wasn't for South Park, it would have been the most offensive animated series, because Rick is the way he is. If you don't get discouraged by the weak beginning and you have a sense of humor, you will like it.

Gyilkos hajsza (2013) (sorozat)

angol I have mixed feelings about this series. The premise is perfect and decently developed in the first and second season. The main villain is played by James Purefoy, which was a great choice, just like the casting of Kevin Bacon. But it’s beyond me why the first season makes every FBI agent or policeman come off as an unintelligent ignoramus. Another problem for me were the constant flashbacks. After a while, I thought I was going to see Agent Hardy making toast in 1986. The second season felt more balanced if it hadn't been for the terribly handled ending. The third season was a downright disappointment. The writers seemed to have taken the best of the first and second seasons and added everything they could think of. The density of serial killers per hectare was abnormal, as well as the amount of sappy clichéd dialogue.

Twin Peaks (1990) (sorozat)

angol An excellent series that I keep going back to. It's a quirky show with a great script, director, and cast. It’s difficult for me to find a single thing I don't like, I can only think of the things I do like. In my opinion, the writing, directing, and music create a fantastic Atmosphere with a capital A. It was the atmosphere of this series that made me a David Lynch fan.

Homeland - A belső ellenség (2011) (sorozat)

angol Homeland drew me in from the very first episode and, to my own surprise, it has kept my enthusiasm high over 60 episodes. I suppose it's because it's so incredibly good. I originally wanted to skip it altogether, expecting a tsunami of patriotism and melodrama, but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the terrorists are the bad guys (and rightly so), but even the good guys aren't exactly all good and aren't portrayed as the standard relatable characters at all times. Damian Lewis is excellent as always, Claire Danes is absolutely superb, and the script is so good that after each season I can't wait for the next one to start. Edit: After finishing Season 8 and the whole series, my initial enthusiasm has somewhat waned. The creators gradually deviated from their original course. I even felt that they had completely lost their way more than once, which was most evident in the drop in quality in Season 7 and the Disney finale in season eight. Despite these quibbles, I still consider Homeland to be a great show that I enjoyed most of the time.

Fekete vitorlák (2014) (sorozat)

angol Black Sails is a great surprise for me. I’ve always been interested in pirate-themed stuff and this series presents it in a really interesting way. It’s not always about frantic action. Quite the opposite, the plot is full of intrigue and politics, and it works very well. Plus, Captain Flint is played by Toby Stephens, which is another reason for me to be satisfied. I’m not so familiar with the rest of the cast, but I have to give credit to them. They are not trying to act, but really acting, so I have nothing to complain about. I’m just a bit baffled by how suspiciously short John Silver is. On the other hand, he does match the book in terms of sneakiness. This is my review of the first two seasons, I will add the rest of my reviews separately.

Tortúra (1990)

angol A great book turned into an excellent script. I enjoyed the film all the way through. Both the atmosphere and tension escalate really well. It is basically a two-hander between Kathy Bates and James Caan, who were both chosen perfectly. I consider the scene with the hammer and the cracked ankles to be one of the scariest things ever. I usually have a lot of reservations about a film if I have read the book before watching it, but not in this case. I couldn’t be happier.

Kártyavár (2013) (sorozat)

angol I'm writing this review after watching four seasons. I knew after the first episode that I was going to like this one a lot. Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors, and he's excellent as always. I never thought I’d enjoy a series about political intrigue, but I was wrong. The story completely drew me in, and I always find it hard to turn it off and go to sleep. I think a lot of filmmakers could learn from it a lot about how to create atmosphere. Frank and Claire Underwood can be so cold sometimes that I have to scrape frost off the screen. Edit (December 5, 2019): I rated and reviewed Season 6 separately. It wasn't even part of the series anymore, at least not to me.

James Bond: Casino Royale (2006)

angol Casino Royale is a Bond movie that reminded me of Ian Fleming's books. Although set in the present day, it has such a retro vibe to it. Craig's Bond is a pretty tough guy, so he pleasantly surprised me with his wit when talking to Vesper. Mads Mikkelsen is a brilliant actor in my opinion, and Eva Green was the proverbial icing on the cake. Less action was definitely not a bad move. At least you can tell the difference between a spy film and an action film.
