Borgiák - Az orgyilkos (2011) (epizód)

angol Neither the second episode disappointed me, the church prelates fully engaged in what they do best, besides sodomizing young altar boys, which is scheming and pursuing wealth. I really enjoyed this part, and if the creators didn't hold back too much with the vices of the high-ranking flanders, I would even add a fifth piece.

Borgiák - A mérgezett kehely (2011) (epizód)

angol Summer is a period of reruns, so I decided to rewatch another series that I had seen years ago. The very first episode immediately drew me into the story, and as a staunch opponent of religion in general and all kinds of churches in particular, I found it very entertaining. However, I felt that some parts (such as the crowning of a new pope) were too lengthy.

Közös titkunk (2008)

angol I really enjoyed this glimpse into the life of an American family. As a father, Willem Dafoe was as pleasant as a pain in the ass, Emily Watson was great as usual, and Ryan Reynolds' performance was greatly improved by his full beard. I only wish the creators had developed some of the issues they had brought up instead of leaving it up to me to figure out the rest. I certainly wouldn’t mind if the film was slightly longer, I liked it a lot.

A nagy trükk (2003)

angol The film was well made, very well cast and the theme was appealing enough for me to be greatly entertained. Gabriel Byrne’s role was a perfect fit for him and I also loved the performance of Sylvester Stallone, whom I like much better in these calmer roles of aging gangsters/gamblers than a retired John Rambo or Rocky Balboa. The problem was that the story was too monotonous, I guess I was expecting a slightly livelier plot.

Szépségtépő verseny (1999)

angol One of those films that probably won't sit well with everyone. As I don't like religion of any kind, American hypocrisy, or beauty pageants, I greatly enjoyed a film that joyfully satirizes all of these things. The film offered me a good dose of black humor, and even though the humor sometimes went beyond the bounds of good taste, it worked for me as a whole. All those famous faces (although in a much younger version) were certainly a plus. The performance of last year's winner Mary Jo has been indelibly etched in my memory, the second place was taken by the dance with Jesus. Lesson learned: Don't eat anything that carries around its own house.

Nász-ajánlat (2009)

angol An absolutely simple, predictable comedy which will let you take time off thinking too much. Anyone who has seen at least two romantic films will know how the story will turn out right from the start, and yet I had a great time watching. Nevertheless, the grandma got on my nerves and after the bike ride, the play on emotions kicked into overdrive.

Az én kis falum (1985)

angol Another one of the great comedies from back when the weather was controlled by the mighty Central Committee of the Communist Party. Zdeněk Svěrák often annoys me with his political views, but his screenplays are downright brilliant, and My Sweet Little Village is a prime example of that. There is something in it for everyone. You might watch it just for the laughs, but it can also give you something to think about. Most importantly, as it is typical for Zdeněk Svěrák, the film is heartwarming and has a human dimension. Not to mention how many of the film’s one-liners have accompanied me through life.

Világfiak (1969)

angol I enjoyed this conversational comedy even after years. The script was brutally simple, but its execution was great. The cast was stellar and the conversation in which the participants were able to connect six different topics completely blew my mind. I would have done without all the singing and dancing, but not even that could deter me from giving five stars.

Négy gyilkosság elég lesz, kedvesem! (1970)

angol I have always had a soft spot for Oldřich Lipský’s parodies. I really like American movies about organized crime, so if someone can ridicule them in such a great way, I can hardly be disappointed. Plus, Kája Saudek took care of one of the most dramatic car chases in film history, and I had a blast.

Uram, Ön özvegyasszony lesz! (1970)

angol You Are a Widow, Sir was one of those comedies that I had always been looking forward to seeing back when we only had four TV channels to choose from. Today, after years, I watched it again only to find that its humor still works perfectly. The scientific progress was enormous, the plot was zany enough and Jiří Sovák made everything even better with his deadpan one-liners.
