Örvénylő vizeken (2000)

angol Kathryn Bigelow confirms quite radically that sophisticated melodramas are not really her thing, and I hope next time she sticks to the action genre, which suits her splendidly. The theme of The Weight of Water is more suitable for Jane Campion or Alejandro González Iñárritu. The cast is brilliant, but the alternative story from the 19th century is boring, and when it all ends, you sort of realise that this film would have worked much better as a pure conversational drama set in the present.

Becstelen brigantyk (2009)

angol Tarantino's direction is again phenomenal, full of fabulous scenes and great directorial ideas. Unfortunately, the setting of World War II somehow does not suit some of his typically over-the-top elements and the overall feeling. Above-average filmmaking, especially thanks to the performances, but the plot is quite hard to digest.

2012 (2009)

angol Less monumental than I expected, much less than Independence Day, for example. The theme is partly to blame for that, after all, the end of the world is slightly less attractive than the arrival of Aliens. But the much worse and less remarkable musical component is also to blame. Unfortunately, even the actors in the main roles are not that great, either. Where did tough guy Vince Larkin go, that is a mystery to me, John Cusack is really not up to the task. The excellent Oliver Platt and a few Russian actors save it – excellent accent and lines. The visual effects are decent, some ideas are excellent, the volcano explosion is fantastic. But overall, it lacks drive and has too many directorial ideas. You are not afraid for the protagonists because you don't care about them. And I’d rather not speak about the overall and somewhat annoying family feeling that was present throughout the whole film. This is no Emmerich. This modern disaster film is pure average.

A kék szoba (2009)

angol That shot I’ve seen a hundred times somewhere else was replaced by a second shot that I’ve seen only fifty times somewhere else. An (un)sophisticated and (un)original film with an utterly (un)original plot, execution and expressive means; a trend of recent years. But it's popular. So why do most people buy Danone yogurts? Because they are the best? Or because they have such a cool advertisement and colorful packaging?

G. I. Joe: A kobra árnyéka (2009)

angol Exactly as expected. I wouldn't bother with a one-star-rating essay about how bollocks it is, even a small child knows it's bollocks. So I don't see a reason not to fully enjoy it knowingly. The action is unprecedented and cleverly filmed , with well-executed various technical gimmicks and other trifles. The acceleration suits are really cool. Above all, please don't look for something that isn't there, get some quality speakers, a big-screen TV, and let's go.

Pokolba taszítva (2009)

angol Excellent in terms of atmosphere, with good performances , and technically at least above average. Sam Raimi doesn't hold back and delivers a fairly entertaining, albeit simple, piece. Alison Lohman's delicacy beautifully contrasts with the unpleasant setting, the ominous sky, and the brutal performance by Lorna Raver. Only that green slime wasn't quite my cup of tea.

A Boszorkány-hegy (2009)

angol It sounds unbelievable, but The Rock has a talent for comedy, some of his lines are delectable. Unfortunately, the film itself is somehow off from beginning to end. The same goes for the technical aspect, which is quite a major mistake for the 21st century. There is nothing here that would captivate you, and so, there’s not much to be entertained by, you will be hopelessly bored even during the opening credits.

A dolgok állása (2009)

angol It is important not to expect a gripping espionage ride, but rather a lightly sarcastic thriller with a sharply eloquent Russell Crowe and an unremarkable Ben Affleck, again. While watching, I had a feeling that I’d already seen hundreds of films like this, and it is quite possibly true. I recommend it more to fans of the investigative subgenre, the uninitiated will not enjoy it, they will be bored.

Star Trek (2009)

angol Abrams's directing style and mise-en-scène construction is at the very least grandiose. What I admired in MI3 is also here, and once again there’s plenty to look at. Monstrous shots of the whole scenery, camera swoops, and monumentality complemented by a fast-paced and entertaining story is an excellent and powerful combination. Unfortunately, I'm not a Star Trek fan, so some things somehow escaped me. Nevertheless, I dare say that as a standalone Star Trek film, it can work quite well. Some plot twists were on the edge of acceptability, but in terms of drive, action, and entertainment, it's top-notch. No bullshit and absolutely uncompromising, just as we expect from Abrams.

Bunyó (2009)

angol A quite pleasant affair, that is, if you overlook the simplicity and straightforwardness of the story, which banal, leading again to an “American dream” conclusion. However, Channing Tatum is surprisingly good as the protagonist, who with his honesty stands out quite skillfully from the ranks of brainless tough guys, and he is excellently complemented by Terrence Howard and Zulay Henao. The portrayal of their relationship is superb. Although it is not a groundbreaking work, it is an undemanding and heartfelt one-off. After a while, you will forget about it, but you will definitely not be disgusted.
