A szamurájok kora: Harc Japánért

A must for fans of samurai, history and Japanese culture! Age of Samurai tells the powerful story of the unification of Japan during the Sengoku period, with the most famous Daimyo Oda Nobunaga, Ieyasu Tokugawa and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The series has great sets, naturalistic brutal action scenes, and for the fact that it's semi-documentary style, there's blood aplenty. The story itself is also riveting, with classic intrigue, betrayal and politicking, all delivered in the highest quality. I enjoyed it very much, I liked the explanation of several important Japanese terms, it's suspenseful, informative enough, and pleasing enough action. 8/10. (2021.03.24)

A great introduction to the subject. This Netflix documentary concentrates on things that are attractive for the viewer, never going particularly deep. This said, in places it stutters and leaves the plot to flow, ignoring wider contexts. The introduction with Nobunaga, rising to become the Demon King was unequivocally the best part and then there are so many clans to make a six-season series about. The beautiful shots of Fuji and well-filmed historical reconstructions are superb. There could have been much less of the black and white talking heads. (2021.03.14)
