A Macedonian big-screen movie set in 11th-century Byzantium sounds very appealing. The reality is somewhat less predictable, and the film offers a window into a completely different cinematic world. Whether its story is the Old Testament issue of the sacrifice of a son, the feud between two half-brothers, or the medieval trials of witchcraft, it is always an encounter with the absolute. The work with time and the composition of music with noises are also interesting. (2012.10.07)
