Those three hours pass like water and it doesn't bore for a moment, after all, the ups, the downs and the complicated family relationships in Woods's career and personal life are quite numerous. Even the reverse concept, where it's about Tiger the man and only in the second row, as if by the way, about Tiger the golfer, doesn't matter. The problem is that it focuses entirely on Tiger's motives, emotions and how he lives them, and it's not narrated by Tiger or those closest to him (the only exception is an ex-caddie who was by his side for most of his career), but by people like "first serious acquaintance, daddy's work buddy, family friend, friend of Tiger's", which in itself is too second-hand. Moreover, the fact that it doesn't specify at all how close a friend they are or where, or whether they are "some +1 at a party that Tiger also attended" or his closest friend with whom he talks about everything, is also quite a problem. You have to take it at face value that the supposed family friend has insight into the Woods family that few regular members of that household could dream of, which is bordering on tabloid fodder. It’s polished, engaging, informative and interesting, and not only for golf fans, but tabloid nonetheless. Last but not least, it is too early for a recapitulative documentary, as the latest accident in early 2021 proves. (2021.03.18)
