Ich will nicht nur, daß ihr mich liebt - Der Filmemacher Rainer Werner Fassbinder

For fans of the famous director Fassbinder, watching this film is a must. Some of his works appear somewhat different to me when I know the context. It's not a perfect documentary, and it lacks certain information about his personal life, friends, and personal relationships. Some of the interviews, especially with Hanna Schygulla, could not avoid having a reverent uncritical view and also lacked more substantial evaluation from the side of professional critics. However, a documentary is usually evaluated based on its subject matter, and Fassbinder, as an artist, had a strong personality. Overall impression: 70%. (2009.11.19)

A classic biographical documentary - a filmmaker was born, made films, and lived and died. His immediate family and associates speak, and we also get to appreciate highlights from his work as we fly around the world. Personally, the only thing I appreciate about Rainer Werner Fassbinder career’s is the partial help in rehabilitating the career of Karlheinz Böhm, who was facing a similar fate to the one Romy Schneider had been fighting all her life. But men have it easier even in the winding alleys of acting careers. (2014.04.28)
