The theme of motherhood has never been the main theme of Czech cinema, but if exceptions were made, they turned out solidly. In this case, it was excellent, especially considering the climax of such a rich plot. Beyond that, this film is one of my earliest B&W memories and in a way helped me respect my own mother more.
