Amy Post is a prostitute who has never gotten over having given her only child up for adoption. When Amy meets a drifter named Elmore Pratt, she does not like him. But the two misfits are both dreaming of a better life, and so they take to the road, leaving the deep South and heading for California. More than anything else, this film is interesting because the main couple is a perfect match for each other. Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones are simply excellent and even though the story is rubbish in places, they manage to bring it to life and you watch scenes that you enjoy because of their acting. That's what I really liked about the film.
