Beautiful romance that simply wouldn't work without that setting. Scotland is beautiful and this is wonderfully captured in the film. Roger Livesey demonstrates what a great actor he is and also that he may have deserved a bit more recognition for his work in his lifetime. The melodramatic approach, however, may not always appeal to everyone.
