The subject matter, based on an actual encounter at Lake Geneva, certainly has a lot of potential, and the numerous dialogues contain numerous profound ideas. If it wasn't for the somewhat awkward and dull treatment, it could have been a much better movie. (60%)

Haunted Summer reveals why Ivan Passer, unlike his Czech New Wave counterpart Miloš Forman, failed to properly establish himself overseas. Forman knows how to bring a significantly greater atmosphere and sparkle into biographical motifs. A film about the greatest social troublemakers of that era should provoke and shock, but unfortunately, it instead bores. It is tiresome, overloaded with dialogues, without ideas, and the only positive aspect for me was the presence of the young Laura Dern. Also, Philip Anglim did not convince me of his acting qualities in the role of Lord Byron. Overall impression: 40%.
