Mert az álmok valóra válhatnak – de rettentés árat kell fizetni értük. angol I fail to understand how someone in Blumhouse greenlit this. Fantasy Island could be easily written off as a dull, dime-a-dozen and superficial wannabe horror film for teenagers, where one-dimensional dolls in the shape of sexy models appear instead of living characters, but that’s even not the whole truth because these characters still aren’t interesting even if they are hot. They aren’t. Desolate and empty, a film made to be forgotten. ()

angol With bad movies you can never be sure if they make you laugh or if you find some kind of perverse liking to them. With Fantasy Island I was hoping for something like that. I kept telling to myself that if nothing else it might at least be funny. And it wasn’t. And it is not even a horror movie. Therefore the expectation of fear and thrill gets lost before it even gets the chance to manifest. The first half hour is just endless talking and during the second half hour we can experience some more talking with a little action. The second half of the movie has more action but you are feeling like you have just been lobotomized. As another synchronized online watching with the user Enšpígl it was a failed attempt. We instead launched into a discussion about Czech female tennis players and wondered which one of them has the most attractive legs. ()

angol An incredibly stupid thing about an island that grants wishes but makes them into nightmares. Obviously, the people behind this film weren't even clear on how the whole thing was supposed to work, and given that director Jeff Wadlow can't come up with a single workable scare and is even worse at working with atmosphere, the result is utterly trivial and almost laughable. Avoid it. ()

angol Lost: Season Six in a movie. Despite its promising title, poster, or official genre classification, this is not a horror or thriller at all, just pathetic, strangely seasoned war therapy, in which Lucy Hale willingly degrades herself dangerously close to rock bottom. One decent star for Ryan Hansen, who seems like he's fresh off the set of Veronica Mars and is still as entertaining as Dick Casablancas, even in his forties. ()

angol On one unspecified day, a trio of writers with three completely different scripts collided in a stairwell and all their sheets got mixed together, but none of them bothered to correct the accident, and this may well have been the basis for Fantasy Island. For almost the entirety of the running time, you don’t really know what you’re watching. I have nothing against genre mash-ups, but in this case I'm not entirely sure that it was the original intention. The premise of the wish-granting island (at great cost) isn’t entirely bad, but the whole thing flounders on the execution and oddly written characters – though I do appreciate the not entirely predictable identity of the main villain. Even the horror storyline didn't work as it should. If the film had been along the lines of the cave scenes, it would certainly have lived up to genre expectations more. As a result, it's quite a disappointment and a wasted potential at the same time. ()

angol The American movie Fantasy Island is a kind of fantasy horror morality tale, although it works quite well as an entertaining production from my perspective. It is, however, quite predictable, and another issue is that it is not particularly imaginative. However, I actually found myself quite enjoying this horror movie as I did not think it was too bad in the end. ()
