Brian 16 évesen nagy jövő előtt állt. Olyan jól focizott, hogy már akkor ösztöndíjat ajánlottak neki az egyetemre. Az ő környékükről nehéz kitörni, de neki összejött volna. Csakhogy, egy lánnyal csókolózni kezdtek, amikor zajt hallottak, szétrebbentek. Brian elsietett, a lány megsértődött, és mire feleszmélt, már a rendőrök vitték el nemierőszak és emberrablás vádjával. A védőügyvéd azt tanácsolta, ne tagadja a vádakat. Pár hónap próbaidő, és folytathatja az életét. Viszont, 7 év börtönt kapott és további 5 év próbaidőt. Brian a börtönből kikerülve azon kezd el dolgozni, hogy megsemmisítse az ítéletet, és legyen esélye még azt az életet élni, amit elvettek tőle. Justin Brooks szervezetét veszi lassan rá, hogy segítsenek neki, és legyenek az ügyvédei. Egy kisebb csoda kell a sikerhez, de Brian soha nem adja fel. (FilmNow)

Very good drama based on true events where a sixteen year old African American kid with a promising career in American football is falsely convicted of kidnapping and rape and gets six years hard time, another six years probation and registration as a sex offender. The story mostly focuses on the main character who is already out on parole and trying to clear his name, only it won't be easy without direct evidence. The protagonist is an incredibly likeable character who will make you keep your hands clenched in fists throughout the film, and you can't help but shake your head at yet another miscarriage of justice. An enjoyable watch for fans of similar films, this one is not well known and deserves more attention. The emotions work too, so ladies take your handkerchiefs with you. 8/10.

A nice and impressive story that, however, has a contrived screenplay. In the high school scenes, Aldis Hodge comes across a bit like a goofball in a classroom comedy. The theme of systemic injustice is conceived in such a way that it only tangentially touches on racism in general terms. Despite the film’s overall formulaic nature, however, Brian is undoubtedly a charismatic and interesting character that actually works in this near hagiography of a victim of American justice.
