Roobha

In Toronto, Gokal is thrown into the street by his father after stating his intention to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Desperate and penniless, Gokal earns money as a sex worker, adopting the name Roobha. After a brutal beating, seeking security and stability, Roobha begins a relationship with Anthony, a South-Asian family man in his 40s. When their relationship is discovered by Anthony’s family, the full force of their community’s reproval is directed at them. (Montreal World Film Festival)
