When Miranda Wells was invited to live with her dark and charming distant cousin Nicholas Van Ryan in order to school his daughter at Dragonwyck manor she was a naive farm girl. As she watches the dark secrets of the house unfold, she becomes more aware of selfishness, desire, and insanity while becoming more involved with Nicholas. Vincent Price is very good in this film, which basically just foreshadows the roles that would make him famous in the decades to come. He is properly demonic here, both in his acting, appearance, and voice. The film could have been a bit more gritty, but that would have required a different time period than the one it was made in.
