A nuclear power plant disaster in northern Spain renders a small town and nearby country a forbidden zone. One survivor of the disaster, police inspector Hector Uría, has to return three years later to investigate a murder. This leads him to discover the troubled fates of other residents but also several layers of the criminal world and its ties to political circles. The classic crime show motif of a search for a murderer is just a handy decoy for the Spanish creators, allowing them and their main character to uncover the circumstances of both personal and societal tragedies. The fantastical premise of a catastrophe with far-reaching consequences serves as a reflection of the turbulent climate in Spanish society caused by the economic crisis. (Serial Killer)
