A remek komikus, Walter Matthau (A furcsa pár, A szomszéd nője mindig zöldebb) a fősze-replője ennek a bővérű komédiának, melyet az Ének az esőben sztárja, Gene Kelly rendezett. Paul felesége, Ruth (Inger Stevens) a világ legcsinosabb, legkedvesebb és legháziasabb terem-tése. Paulnak (Walter Matthau) mégis csorog a nyála, valahányszor meglát az utcán egy rövid szoknyát vagy egy mélyebb dekoltázst. Barátja, Ed (Robert Morse) úgy érzi, meg kell mente-nie Paul házasságát. Ezért ad neki egy hasznos tanácsot: sürgősen be kell csajoznia, hogy ki-egyensúlyozottabb legyen és ezáltal kedvesebb a nejével! Egy nőt felszedni azonban nem egyszerű feladat. Szerencsére Ed igen komoly szaktudással rendelkezik a csajozás területén és sok-sok vicces példán keresztül mutatja be Paulnak, hogyan lehet alaposan elszúrni a dolgot.
