angol Hamlet as a symptom of capitalism? Why not! Kaurismäki ironically turned over and dissected Shakespeare, then told the result with a laconic grin that, at the right moments, goes into theatricality and absurdity. Scenes such as the drowning of Ophelia or the duel between Hamlet, Laert and Claudia are superbly set in a tragic frame of pop playfulness. Proof that a drunk Finn has more than just a morbid sense of humor. ()

angol A different take on Hamlet. While the film isn't lacking in ideas, one might question the necessity of connecting it with Shakespeare and his renowned theatrical play. Perhaps it could have stood alone as a film without reference to the tragic character, which might have worked even better for me. x ()
