Az Agymenők című sorozat előzményszériája a 9 éves Sheldon Cooper és családja megpróbáltatásait követi nyomon. Nem könnyű a matekzseni gyerkőc élete Texasban, ahol a templomba járás és az amerikai foci a király. Miközben a tehetséges, ám kissé naiv és sérülékeny Sheldon a világgal foglalkozik, a családjának meg kell találnia a módját, hogy alkalmazkodjon hozzá. És nem elég, hogy Sheldon nincs egy intellektuális szinten a szüleivel és a testvéreivel, az iskolában is rendre gondjai vannak. (HBO Europe)

I can’t deny the fact that the creators of Big Bang Theory worked hard to depict Sheldon’s family as accurately and as specifically as it’s been described in the original show. The same goes for young Sheldon who has exactly the same face as the original actor, only some 20 years younger. I have to admit that as far as the jokes go, the show isn’t that disappointing. Some episodes were actually more boring than cringy, but that can happen with these sorts of shows. This well-done look at the turn of the 1990s gets solid four stars and a recognition that a similar sitcom hasn’t been this well-casted in a long time.

Prequel of the current successful sitcom based on the (not admitted) remake of the famous sitcom of the past decades. If each episode had not been bounded by the embarrassing, superfluous and forced monologue of the Sheldon senior, it would have been a really good on a completely (I really mean completely and utterly) different level of humor and style than the original show. So it would do the job itself, although exclusively in the department of a second-rate wannabe imitation of the Wonderful Years, but it is already significant, given that it is a decent second-rate imitation of the Wonderful Years. On top of that, the imitation, which will found its place after couple of episodes and thus the dynamics within the family, and each member of it for themselves (led by grandma and sister), work perfectly (we haven´t seen a sitcom with more precisely selected actors for many years) and thanks to that the whole series too. Paradoxically, it's more for fuddy-duddies than for fans of the Big Bang Theory (except for the voice-over), but it doesn't matter at all. In fact, it is quite the opposite, especially when the quality goes upward so far and the second season is already a family sitcom, which currently has no competition in its department and which has long been missing. | S1: 4/5 | S2: 5/5 | S3: 4/5 |

Squeezing out the long dried-up potential of a once entertaining sitcom is a truly brilliant idea. On the other hand, if there are separate elaborate spin-off storylines from Jane Eyre that no one ever cared about, then apparently anything is possible.
