angol Karel Kachyňa and Alena Mihulová, this cooperation made sense at that time. The Cow is a great period drama that offers an amazing story, melancholic mood and performances which are not easily forgotten. Considering the year was 1992, this movie is definitely worthy of every Czech movie lover’s attention. ()

angol Kachyňa knew as well as anyone how to make the best quality film out of the minimum. With this I don’t want to downplay, for example, Hapek's music, which, by the way, is an ornament of the narrative, but to tell a plot so poor in props, twists or secondary characters with such voluminous poetry and atmosphere requires a skill almost unprecedented in Hollywood. It doesn’t have many really strong emotional moments, but The Cow sings an ode to the beauty and purity of image in almost every shot, just as Holub and Mihulová sing about simple and natural acting.
