(MTVA)

angol The character Hurvínek’s (Harvie) journey through the silver screen is includes educational, cartoon, puppet, black and white, color and 3D films. Hurvínek was the hero of adaptations of theater plays for both the young and old, and he also became famous in his own bedtime story. There is plenty more I could mention about him. So is it possible to wonder and not cheer for Hurvínek in 2017? Besides him being very funny and good? Hardly. The only thing I wonder about is that the puppet has eyelids when transposed into 3D, which is sad because Hurvínek already had eyelids in 1936. ()

angol The animation is surprisingly good and the stylized rendition of the characters turned out great. The animators and artists definitely deserve praise, and so does Jiří Škorpík for the great lively musical accompaniment. However, the directing and screenplay fail across the board, as unfortunately, the plot is desperately incoherent, unstable and in places even Dadaistic. Most of the film consists more or less only of various dramaturgical and narrative errors (for example, Mánička and Mrs. Kateřina are completely useless characters, because they do not do or say anything fundamental throughout the film to justify their existence in the story) and surprisingly, there is also a lack any of the verbal jokes or puns that made Harvie popular. angol This puppet classic is killed a bit by the 3D animation, but it has to be admitted that it celebrates puppets anyway. The story is a bit silly and overly positive towards the end, but it works and the blend of modern and classic is quite good. And yes, the characters have the potential for contemporary audiences, children and adults alike. ()
