A film annak a frenetikus és ellenállhatatlan zenének az eredetét kutatja, amelyet sokan balkáni punknak hívnak. Ezt a zenét a világ Emir Kusturica filmjeiben, főleg a Macska-jaj-ban ismerte és szerette meg. A film főszereplője a No Smoking nevű punkegyüttes. A történet narrátora és mozgatórugója Emir Kusturica. A film pár európai koncertre, archív dokumentumokra, és szuper 8-as családi felvételekre is épül. Atmoszférája egyedülálló. Kusturica nemcsak mint rendező, hanem mint riporter, mint színész, s nem utolsósorban, mint apa is ellenállhatatlan. Két éve már annak, hogy a Taorminai Fesztivál nyitókoncertjét és a hangulatot ők varázsolták a Görög Templom szentélyébe. (Budapest Film)

No Smoking Orchestra is like a musical extract from Kusturica’s films. A bit of folklore, a bit of brass band, a bit of rock, a bit of bizarre socialist costumes, a bit of historical bitterness, and together a band with an incredible drive. In this documentary, you can see what it’s like when gentlemen go on tour. You don't know what the legend is and what's true, but to hell with it, as a whole, it's great fun full of excellent dialogues and concert shots. And if I'm not mistaken, drummer Igor Kusturica is Emir's brother, not his son :o))
