Gorilla Girls

The Lady Gorillas are a basketball team, but they aren't exactly ladies. They're a bunch of women who talk and play rough because that's how life has treated them. And now their team may have to disband because they keep losing and their sponsors aren't happy. This game against The Sharks is the team's last chance. Judy is the captain. She's a teacher with a drinking problem. Lucy, her student, is a young Koori and their best player. Margie is scared of everything thanks to an abusive husband who delights in humiliating her. Hester is the team's "mother", a worldly-wise Maori with a quick temper. She has just regained custody of her daughter and wants to win to impress her. She also resents having to squeeze her ample bottom into the tiny shorts someone has decreed the uniform. She offers good advice to Brook, a rock band groupie whose two-timing boyfriend uses her when it suits him. Then there's Graham, their coach. He needs lessons in leadership. Can this diverse group work together to beat the unscrupulous Sharks?
