Christine Boomeester

A French abstract artist, Boumeester also went through a surrealistic period. Resnais recognized her as the wife of Henri Goetz, whose portrait he wax filming. For her, he decided to make a short observational documentary about one night during which a painting is created. He makes effective use of cinematic devices such as fade-outs, transitions and musical accompaniment to create a documentary that is at once highly contemplative and deeply impressive.
