This is the first feature film to deal with the genocide of 1994, and the first from Rwanda itself. The idea for 100 Days came about in 1997 during a meeting between Eric Kabera, then a journalist, and Nick Hughes, the British documentary maker. As the story of a young Tutsi girl who survived the atrocities unfolds, France and some members of the clergy do not emerge as heroes, nor does the UN emerge unscathed.
