Az utóbbi évek egyik legismertebb ausztrál filmje Murielről, a bátortalan, gátlásos és csúnyácska lányról szól, aki egy álmos, vidéki kisvárosban él. Muriel életét az apján és a testvérein kívül még az ismerősei is megkeserítik. A lány naphosszat ül a szobájában, ABBA-dalokat hallgat és a saját esküvőjéről álmodozik, amelynek köszönhetően kiszabadulhatna a családi fészekből. Az esküvő rövidesen Muriel rögeszméjévé válik. Amikor a keserűség pohara betelik, a lány az első adandó alkalommal, kitisztítja apja bankszámláját és habozás nélkül Hawaiira szökik, hogy szakítson eddigi életével. (Filmcafe)

Comedically tuned drama about the adolescence and maturation of a rural girl who was seeking happiness in the city. A very positive-sounding film that reminds me of Mamma Mia! and one that I still enjoy returning to. Although ABBA's music appears in a number of films, in this case, the combination of this easygoing music and the film's story is probably the most successful. Overall impression: 90%. It was in this film that I discovered the excellent actress Toni Collette, who soon broke into Hollywood thanks to it.

Such a very pleasant Australian romantic comedy that has proper thorns. It's like you want to laugh the whole time, but the movie gives you plenty of reasons to cry instead. Beautifully balanced drama with comedy, which actually isn't romantic at all, at least not in the American sense of the word. That's exactly what makes the film beautifully unique. Of course, thanks to Toni Collette. And with ABBA!
