(UIP-Duna Film)

angol A musical treat that made me believe a few times that it’s cool to be a girl. Unfortunately, it sits a few comedic octaves below Bridesmaids, for example. Pitch Perfect doesn’t do a very convincing job of pretending to belong in the company of that film and others like it. The filmmakers attempt to use the university setting to obscure the fact that it’s just another variation on the high-school comedy for teen viewers. It’s nice that the film faces the same struggle as the protagonist (be yourself vs. go with the crowd), but it is unfortunately a very one-sided battle in which mediocrity easily overwhelms originality, whose arsenal comprises pop songs, one likable actress and dozens of seconds of intense effort to build humour on a foundation of vomit and autoeroticism. I’m giving Pitch Perfect a better three stars for its careful ridicule of the nerd cult and for Anna Kendrick. I would like to see her in a more grown-up film, something self-sufficient enough that it wouldn’t have to rip off the unrivalled The Breakfast Club and sufficiently self-confident that it wouldn’t be ashamed of its own predictability (which is a feature of the genre and you can’t save the situation if you draw attention to that fact through the mouth of one of the characters). 70% ()

angol Loads of annoying pop in the most classic school-musical-competition story structure ever. Zero surprises, one hundred percent cliché. Glee revival. Two stars for a couple of bizarre over-the-top moments, where the film is at least funny, there should have been a lot more. And half a star for the lovely Elizabeth Banks. ()

angol The desire to feed on Glee arrived on the big screen with a slight delay, but still in time to at least partially meet the audience's taste. However, this timid attempt to parasitize on the popular TV show is rather harmful. Although Pitch Perfect tries to come up with absurd humor, it only succeeds occasionally and the unexpectedly cheap pandering in the form of nauseating humor is downright shocking. The even more surprising aspect is the well-crafted arrangements of all the present pop songs, which I cannot help but enjoy, and such as Just a Dream almost takes my breath away. Thanks to Anna Kendrick's smile, I eventually come out with an average rating, despite the frustrating indecision of whether the film wants to be a parody of fame-seeking movies or whether it will be one of them. In the end, it actually shouldn't be a disappointment, because the film is a pure classic genre piece, and it's only my fault that I expected more. ()

angol I didn't expect much from this film, I thought it would be some dumb comedy set in a teenage environment. Well, I wasn't entirely wrong, but honestly, there was more to it and the film, at times even against my will, intrigued me. I got a pretty decent comedy in some places, dominated mainly by the great musical aspect. Although I don't really believe Anna Kendrick as an enthusiastic DJ, she still played it decently and at times I thought she really knows what she's talking about. So she convinced me in the end, but I still think it's because of her charm, which I simply like. This girl is really pretty, but not in a completely Hollywood way. She has something innocent in her, which was turned upside down in this film and it worked well. She's not a bad girl directly, but she's close to it. The other characters are typically caricatures, just like the whole film. We have a girl vocal group against a boy band. The boy band is leading, they're popular, the girls are awkward and outdated. But then comes a new blood, a girl who understands music and wants to bring some new energy into it. Whether she will succeed, that's a question, just like whether she will find love. The romantic storyline here is absolutely unnecessary and also unbelievable. If it was omitted, it would be much better. However, the film's strongest aspect is still the singing. There are well-done vocal covers of great songs, both modern and older ones, that catch your ear and maybe even your heart now and then. Don't expect something that speaks to your soul from every film, because this could simply entertain you. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2013/01/little-ashes-nezapomen-na-me-butter.html ()

angol A movie full of clichés, absolutely terrible dialogues and dumb vomit-themed jokes. The reason not to dismiss this movie completely, like High School Musical, is clear. After all, (some of) the acting performances are quite decent, and the songs are also okay. But the moment someone is supposed to say something meaningful, the movie hits rock bottom. Since I wasn't really expecting anything extraordinary and I was in a mood to watch a movie with some contemporary music in it, I managed to scrape together 2 stars. ()
