The film Pipeline deals with modernday Europe; about two facets, or rather extremes, of this continent. It describes a Europe which stretches from the remote reaches of eternal winter in Russia's Siberia to the pleasant beaches of the Bay of Biscay. The laws of nature dictate two radically different ways of life here. What do they have in common, however? They are physically connected by a pipeline leading all the way from Western Siberia to Western Europe. And this "pipe" does not only connect THIS Russia with THAT Europe, but it binds them too. angol Despite the lyrical claims of the distributor, I find The Pipe to be a socially critical documentary that blasts off the headline at the beginning that 50% of Russian income is pulled by gas-guzzling pipelines and then showers us with wonderfully composed shots of the victims of economic inequality, right in their element. Fortunately, thanks to the absence of auteur commentary and some really nice camera work that puts you among people and in places you're unlikely to go, it's a fairly enjoyable way to pass two hours, with suspense about where the filmmaker will take us this time. And it's entertaining because, again, Russia is so surreal in places. ()

angol I can't help but like the whole idea of this film a lot. It's simply a journey with a camera along the pipeline from Russia to Europe, capturing people and their lives along the way. We can think about how we're different, how we're wealthier, how we're better, but I can't help seeing the same people all the time, just living according to what life gives them. ()
