A nyomozást a Montrealból érkező Gingras felügyelő vezeti. Amikor Surprenant látja, hogy a felügyelő tévúton jár, magánnyomozásba kezd a társával. (Cinemax)

angol When I went to see this Canadian crime movie, I was feeling quite skeptical. But I was interested in the locations it takes place in, so I decided to give it a go. Îles de la Madeleine are quite an intriguing place, especially as a setting for a movie murder. The problem, however, lies with the characters. The investigator and the female cop lack in charisma, and the way they conduct the investigation would make even the members of the police force in the remotest backwater shake their heads in bemusement. They accuse, arrest, don’t ask questions. They come to deliver their verdict only to change it all a moment later. They never say sorry to anybody, only swear. And when we get to see their personal lives, it’s also nothing to write home about. The daddy cop was quite a blockhead; at least he learned that in the end. The strength of the movie, however, lies in its almost Scandinavian atmosphere, which has the islands to thank for that. Had this movie possessed a better story with better-written characters who’d behave more normally, it could’ve been a really good crime movie. As it is, the only good thing about it are the shots of the islands, which are sometimes really beautiful. But that’s about it. ()
