Arne Dahl: Misterioso

I’d been looking forward to a proper Scandinavian crime movie, which usually don’t disappoint in their book form. But this movie was a real disappointment for me. The beginning looked good, but after a while I found out that everything was bad about this one. The idea is great, but the execution would make you throw up. And who would have thought the Swedes of all people would mess up so badly? The camerawork is terrible, the main characters are incredibly boring. The fact that part of the plot takes place in Tallinn means there could have been some beautiful shots of this city, which definitely deserves it. But that didn’t occur to the authors and they decided rather to show us nameless streets and one farm that’s falling apart. Ugliness and more ugliness. And what really drives me mad is that when I then watch Cases of the First Precinct and the users here criticize that show and they have the audacity to say that it’s nowhere near as good as Nordic crime shows. If you want to compare these things, you should also watch the bad shows, not only the good ones. Or you can keep your mouth shut. I never want to see this movie again. (2014.01.07)
