Paul is a 60-year-old neurosurgeon. Married to Lucie, he has never known a day's unhappiness. But, one day, bouquets of roses begin to arrive from an anonymous sender at their home. Paul discovers that he has a secret admirer, a young woman named Lou who is forty years his junior and who insists that he once performed an operation that saved her life. As Paul tries to comprehend Lou's interest in him, his relationship with his wife takes a turn for the worse, causing both to reflect on what they have made of their lives.
