A semi-documentary look at a daily routine of a father-and-son team of woodcutters as they toil away cutting trees somewhere in Moravian Wallachia or Slovakia. The film is dominated by folk music, which also sets its pace. Poetic, nearly magical realist details contrast sharply with the simplicity and rawness of life in the most remote reaches of Central Europe, where time is measured not in minutes and hours, but through the clopping of hooves and chopping of axes.
