A young peasant girl (Claudia Cardinale) siezes the opportunity to escape poverty and prostitution when her village priest suggests she become a mail order bride and migrate to Australia to marry an Italian immigrant there (Alberto Sordi). In this Italian comedy, Amedio (Alberto Sordi) is a telephone lineman who works in remote parts of Australia. Unfortunately, for this shy, homely Italian man, all of Australia is remote. He wants a wife, and arranges for one by mail. The woman he has chosen is Carmela (Claudia Cardinale), a very beautiful mature prostitute who seeks to retire from her profession. The picture he sent her to induce her to come to Australia wasn't of himself, but of his handsome buddy Giuseppe (Riccardo Garrone). The picture convinces her to come out, but when she arrives and meets Amedio, she says she won't go through with the marriage because she wants Giuseppe. How will he be able to satisfy Carmela and still marry her? (Cinemax)

angol An Italian monstrosity. I bet if I saw it in the original version, I wouldn't be able to stand the mannerisms of Sordi and Cardinal. The subject is a strange Italian guidebook from Australia and the rest is a low artistic level of the period. ()

angol In the original version and with subtitles, I might have liked the film a little less, but the dubbing with Miloš Kopecký (!), Jana Hlaváčová, Václav Voska (!) and others enchanted me. It was very clamorous in places, but not unusually so for Italian standards, and there was enough humor, whether subtle or a bit more coarse, and the Australian countryside played one of the main roles (the beautiful scene with parrots)... If the film could have been a bit shorter (probably a direct proportion between the runtime and the title), then it would have been even better. ()
