A story of jealousy, murder and betrayal, I Against I is set over 12 hours, using different timelines to reveal a dark, edge of your seat thriller that takes numerous twists and turns en-route to an explosive finale. Set in a nocturnal underworld, two men are un-wittingly set up to kill each other by a third as part of a sinister trap. They have to learn to trust each other in order to stay alive but the clock is ticking and their pursuer is always one step ahead of them. (Kaleidoscope Film Distribution)

angol And another British piece. There are quite a few of them this week. "I Against I" is a film that you probably won't come across, its release in Czech cinemas is completely excluded. There is no reason why people should go see such a movie. At least not people here. Well, actually, people in other countries wouldn't be thrilled with it either. What's it about? One guy has to kill another guy, or something bad will happen to him. But the other guy also has to kill the first guy, or something bad will happen to him. That means there are two men who are supposed to kill each other. It's an interesting stalemate, but the motivation for this act is rather uninteresting, we just have to accept that those two want to do it. It's then up to us whether we stay until the end to find out how it all ends. However, the ending certainly won't satisfy everyone, for one simple reason. It's rather open-ended and everyone can speculate how it actually turned out. There are several possible endings, each of them is satisfying and unsatisfying at the same time. Personally, I like open-ended endings, but it's true that I didn't develop a strong relationship with these two characters, so I haven't really thought about how it ended or how I would like it to end. The film can captivate you, with its stylization it can be compared to modern noir films, but it lacks any connection to the protagonist, and also in terms of detachment. "I Against I" is definitely not a masterpiece, which eventually becomes evident. The film ends and you accept it, you won't mourn, you won't jump with excitement either. It has a gray atmosphere, but otherwise it's quite a banal story that tries to be different with its jumps in the timeline. These are not Tarantino-style jumps like in "Pulp Fiction", but they are simply classic flashbacks. Nothing new under the sun.
