Antoine Marechal párizsi bolttulajdonos épp olaszországi álomnyaralására készül, de az utazás elején azonnal autóbalesetet szenved. Az incidens okozója, egy Rolls-Royce gazdag tulajdonosa, Leopold Saroyan igazgató, aki felajánlja Antoine-nak, hogy az ő költségére repüljön el Nápolyba, majd Firenzéből egy limuzinnal térjen haza. A meglepett boltos elfogadja a nagylelkű ajánlatot, nem sejtvén, hogy a férfi valójában nem vezérigazgató, hanem egy alvilági banda főnöke, aki az ügyefogyott Marechal segítségével akar kábítószert és gyémántot csempészni Franciaországba. Antoine elindul a nagy kalandra, nyomában az áruját féltő Saroyannal és egy konkurens bandával... (Film Mánia)

It's a bit of a pity that Louis de Funès and Bourvil don’t have more scenes together in The Sucker. Even though the film has a gangster feel, its action line feels a bit dull, and the humour was also kept pretty much at bay. The sequences from the auto repair shop and the campground did have their charm, but the rest were rather bland. In the context of de Funès' work, this is an average and unremarkable piece.

The Sucker is one of those Funès films that had eluded me for a long time, so I gave it a go with gusto. The central duo did even better in Don't Look Now: We're Being Shot At from the same director, but I'd be happy to watch that film again. Especially because of Louis de Funès, for example, because his rampage in the paint shop is one of the best he has ever done, and also every slap he gives to one of his classically incompetent cronies is priceless. "I'm going to whistle the Wedding March. Like this: Tra-la-la-la - Beng! - Tra-la-la-la - Beng! Beng!"
