Tartalmak(1)

One evening, one stadium, one match. Two football clubs, two tribes engaged in a "war". As the match starts, the players run onto the bright green pitch and in the stands, fans seem to have a free reign over the whole arena. Each hotly contested matchup between the Prague-based rivals provides a unique setting that features people of various backgrounds. In all the noise, hollering and loud debates, each fan becomes absorbed in the match in their own special way. Against the backdrop of a big match, countless minor, yet equally interesting, struggles are about to unfold. (forgalmazó hivatalos szövege)

angol The trailer for this documentary already caught my attention. But there is a number of cons that I would like to explain, as they are also the reason why I gave the documentary only three stars. First of all, I like soccer and I am a Slavia fan. And there comes the issue as Slavia loses this derby. The next thing, which is more to my taste, is that the documentary features more Spartans than Slavians. It’s good that there are more Spartans. In some places it shows their intelligence. Okay, fine, I will stop exaggerating. I know I would shout almost just as much. From the technical aspect, some scenes are pretty useless. On the other hand, there is a number of catchphrases that will live on forever. And the people who like daughters of famous soccer players will like this movie as Tomáš Řepka’s daughter appears in it. I don’t want to end with him so I will just add that the best part the creators came up with are the drunk Italians. They amazingly reflect their and our passion for soccer. Ours is at the lowest and theirs at the highest level. Nobody except a Czech person would realize that the Two Nil is a documentary about the most famous soccer match in the Czech Republic. And we are always so full of shit… ()

angol Two Nil for a concept that Abraham adheres to strictly, even though boredom threatens and nothing really happens. But even that zero has telling value greater than the awkwardly proclaiming Italians and the unbearably witty chatter of the "intellectuals" in the skybox. If the film only stuck to the "natives", who after a while completely fall into football color and obviously forget that they are speaking into microphones, it would be a relatively withdrawn, but proper documentary. But these attempts at foresight only drop the whole thing down a level. Despite them, however, this is a rather peculiar and distinct view of the league's "crowd" and a kind of Czech response to Ruben Östlund's sociological experiments. ()

angol Well damn dude… What was that supposed to be? I used to watch Sparta at the stadium all the time, but dude, since they started serving that non-alcoholic piss and nothing else, they can go screw themselves, I’m not coming if there’s no fights all the way from the field to the nonstop bar, but dude, I’m telling you, I’m literally telling you, this is not what Letná is meant to look like at all. This isn’t REALITY dude! And the asshole who’s to blame for all this bullshit, well dude, needs his face bashed in and to be thrown to those Slavia scumbags - that’s a walk in the park compared to what he deserves, dude. You’re telling me this dickhead is holding up a mirror to me? What effing mirror? Do I look like I have some effing mirror dude? Do I? Well I don’t! Show it to me dude and I swear I’ll break it in your stupid face and slit your throat with the broken shards like the little piglet you are, you dirty, non-Spartan loser! Hey wait dude, why are you running? Wait! Um… It can be as scripted (especially the duo Kafka and Peňás and the Italians), as craftily edited (they could’ve edited it any way they wanted; even two hour long footage of a handful of sleeping spectators, that’s how boring the match was that day) and pre-arranged (the only thing that seemed a bit authentic was the insider behind-the-scenes of the public service broadcasting studios and the spontaneous reactions to the goals) as it likes, but in the end doesn’t really matter, because this freakshow of redneck know-it-alls from the drunk crowd is the reflection of the sad reality (Fox-type REALITY; even I once suffered an awful match within earshot of the VIP section) of how things transpire (not only) on the Spartan tribune. But there you go. What’s interesting is that you would not encounter this at a hockey match all season long, but at soccer matches – regular as clockwork. It’s artificial and unnatural, but Oh well, anyway… Sparta Praha Forever, dude! P.S.: It’s not true that nature is indifferent to what’s happening on the field during that three minute long clip; the poplars positively quiver with delight at the second goal! ()

angol Basically, it’s just a compilation of shots of fans, organizers, or commentators of a football match. The latter in itself is not really important, even though it is a Prague S derby, but because people here talk and react without inhibitions. It's not always a pleasant viewing, and that's the strength of this documentary. One wouldn't enjoy watching oneself without any inhibitions. ()
