In 1956, factory worker and frustrated singer Buddy Visalo, who realizes his dream to buy a two family house in Staten Island for himself and his wife Estelle and convert the ground floor into a neighborhood bar where he can perform, encounters unexpected complications. The first problem is Estelle's lack of confidence in Buddy. Then, Irish tenants upstairs refuse to move and won't pay rent; plus, the woman upstairs is about to have a baby. The next problem is the baby: once he's born, it's clear his father was Black. The Irish guy splits; Buddy evicts mother and child, then feels guilt and sets them up in an apartment and essentially adopts them. An unlikely friendship begins in clashes and verbal fireworks and turns into a gentle romance while Buddy confronts his own prejudice and smothering cultural values. (forgalmazó hivatalos szövege)

angol It is a small American movie about one Italian-American life-story, which was really nice to watch. It offered exactly what I had imagined so I got a solid portion of one fulfilled American dream. By the way, Michael Rispoli was amazing, and Kelly Macdonald was, as usual, interesting and even beautiful. ()
