Global warming and climate change are much discussed topics in recent years. The documentary film Alpine Meltdown shows the viewer that these problems not only concern remote Arctic coasts, but the whole of Central Europe. Retreating glaciers will make space for plants but they will force out the chamois. Once the largest lake in Austria dries up, the jackals will come, forcing out the frogs and birds. Due to increasing temperatures the numbers of previously rare snakes and spiders will increase and they will start eating other species. Conditions will become more suitable for artificially imported species, against which the local ones cannot defend themselves. Humans will also not be spared. Frigid winters, hot summers, droughts and floods will cause a greater density of people in those places with a more stable climate and this may result in civil wars. The authors point out that these issues not only relate to the distant future, but that significant changes are taking place right now. They use specific testimonies from scientists, farmers and other witnesses as well as beautiful views of nature from all around Europe. (alpine panoramas, macro shots of tadpoles and larvae at the bottom of lakes). (Academia Film Olomouc)
