A young Irishman, Friend, travels to the edge of the Antarctic circle to replace the remote island’s previous meteorologist. The only other inhabitant of the island is the lighthouse caretaker, Gruner, a deranged brute, who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. A Cold Skin film bebizonyítja, hogy ügyes hentesnek lenni nem ugyanaz, mint általánosan ügyes rendezőnek lenni. Illetve olyan rendezőnek, aki képes egy összetett történetet elmesélni, például két faj találkozásának érzékeny kidolgozásával. A Cold Skin egy diszfunkcionális keverék, amelyet Xavier Gens fokozatosan alakít át túlélőhorrorból egy szívhez szóló fantasy mesévé. De már a film közepén valami nincs rendben benne, és az eredmény csak keserű mosolyt vált ki. Pedig a zord vulkanikus partvidék témája és helyszíne potenciális volt, és a költségvetést és az adott lehetőségeket figyelembe véve megbocsátható lett volna a közepes digitális kivitelezés.

Feel free to think of me as a conservative cock blocker, but I'm just not that into this kind of interspecies intimacy. Farm animals don't attract me sexually, and the idea of my cuddling with an amphibian is out of the question. So, the film wasn’t my kind of thing in this respect, although, in real life, Aura Garrido's mom and dad should really be proud. The plot wasn't bad in itself, the actors were really making an effort, and because I like Lovecraft's short stories (I assume the writers were inspired by them), I would have given a higher rating if it hadn’t been so anticlimactic.
